I have to say, this was an awesome book. It started a bit slow and matter of fact, but with each page, the writing got better, and better. I found I read for several hours the first evening, put the book down for the night, and went to sleep. The next morning I decided to get a bit of reading in before I started my day, fully intending to put it down once the coffee pot stopped making my morning coffee, and after I had read for about thirty minutes or so. What happened is that I finished the book off in one sitting. I literally could not put it down or stop reading it after I began reading that second time. I blew off my whole day reading!! This is one of the best stories I have read in years. When I finally got to the end, I found myself wanting more!! I can’t wait for the sequel!!

I’ve read most of the stories that are out right now about the end of the world type scenarios, and most were interesting enough. However, Avalon is a story that not only depicts a near end of the world situation, but it tells you in detail how they did it, what methods they used to get those things they would need later up to an almost inaccessible area and best of all, it is a “How To book” that spells it all out. If you want to know how it’s done, putting together a Survival Retreat, stocking it and then maintaining what you have, Avalon is the primer. I have a large survival library and this is one of those books I’ll keep handy just in case I need it for reference.

L Michael Rusin is a master story teller. In Avalon he tells you what are some of the scenarios you should expect if things come apart here or in any country in case of an economic collapse, or an act of terrorism or perhaps simply a terrible natural disaster that shuts down the movement of food, services and perhaps if ordinary things break down such as sewage and electricity. How are you going to survive either short term or long? This book spells it out.

If you don’t have a copy yet of Avalon, get one you won’t be sorry. I would say it is an essential book to have just in case things fall apart. I don’t normally rave about a book but this one is the one I would want to have in my library because it is so life like in the telling, the people are as real as they get, and the events are very probable in today’s world full of uncertainties. Terrorism, nuclear war and the will to survive in spite of it all is a compulsory factor in wanting to live when everything is dying. I can’t wait for the sequel. I mean that.

I just finished the book Avalon and I wanted to congratulate you L Michael Rusin for having written a book that is an indispensable tool as to what to do if a major disaster strike anywhere or at anytime. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Mr. Rusin, you paint a vivid picture using characters who come alive. When I finished reading it I felt a sense of loss as if my friends had suddenly moved out of State. The characters move you with their sense of realism not just characters in a story. They seemed as real as anyone I know in real life.

Reading the last chapter actually brought tears to my eyes……. I could have done without the last paragraph though……..but I suppose that leaves it open to a sequel.

Dear Mr. Rusin,

I don’t normally write to authors but I finished your book this morning and I wanted you to know it was one of the best books I have ever read regarding how to survive if something terrible was to happen where I live. After having read it I believe I have more of a direction as to what I should do just in case.

I am blown away by your attention to detail and your knowledge of survival and all of its components. The way you blend theses “lessons” seamlessly into a story is nothing short of amazing.

I don’t often get real worked up about a book but yours is a masterpiece. It should have been the movie instead of “The Road.” To me it is a gripping tale of how things might very well turn out in our beloved country. The book will require anyone to think about their current situation and force you to react now before it becomes too late.

I have read the book three times. Every time I read it again I find some more useful information I believe might serve me well if things do break down in our society. It is a well thought out story and it is quite obvious you have done your homework. Your details are spot on, the lessons are practical and your story telling/writing is some of the best I’ve ever read. I envy your talent more than I can put in words. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I just finished reading your book Avalon. All I can say is wow! What a great story. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. That doesn’t happen to me very often. To say it is “a story with a learning curve” is a good description. Reading a book that imparts so many lessons is hard to comprehend. I only wish my school books would have been written in such a way as to show me how things were made to work or why they happened when they did and what the results were in the end. I loved it and have made sure everyone I know has read it.

Great job and I look forward to the next one. You tell it as good if not better than anyone else I have read. I’m a fan from now on. I sure hope you write lots of books for me to read.

Dear L. Michael Rusin,

I just finished reading Avalon and I have to tell you it was outstanding. To begin with, I absolutely loved Beth. She was a woman who was needed and she did what many would not do, she jumped right in and made things happen. I recently read Rawlins’ book Patriots and I have to tell you yours was much better for me to follow along with. Yours was more logical, and the details you give make it come alive. Your book took the time to show the reader how to fix something, or how to grow it or build it when all else failed. I like that because it showed me I can do the same thing. None of it was that hard to do.

I read two other books that impressed me because they were quality stories. Lights Out, and One second After. I would have to say that Avalon was the better of the three. Strictly my opinion you understand but I believe your book was superior. I liked the elaborate plans, the preparations that were done, and the years of doing things that in the end made it all happen. Some of the other books I’ve read were too complicated talking about guns and calibers, and was confusing to me. I noticed in another book the preplanning and the expenses were way too complicated and expensive for the average person to be doing. There was little in the way of explanation about the backgrounds of those people in those other books as well. It leaves you wondering, “Where did they get the time or the money to do all of that stuff?” I also wondered what were the thoughts of their families while this was all going on? As a woman it made more sense to me than many or most of the others I have read along similar lines.

You had less fighting in your group, which was good. I think most of us reading these kinds of stories realize that a few battles now and then are inevitable. However, one continuous battle throughout the whole book doesn’t make that much sense to me.

It was a great story, about some people I found myself drawn to and when the book was done I felt a loss for the characters. I‘ll be looking forward to the next book.

Avalon by L. Michael Rusin is one heck of a good book for anyone remotely interested in survival, bush craft, or just surviving the coming predicted collapse. Avalon is a text book disguised as a novel. Make sure you keep a pad and pen at hand while you’re reading so when your “ah ha” light goes on you can make a note on your To Do List. If you love your family you’ll purchase this book and make it a part of your library. Just do it. Avalon is a very important purchase for your preparations.
